BDO Canada LLP – Toronto

IBI Group’s Interior Design team worked in collaboration with Colliers Project Leaders, The Pentacon Group, Spark AV, HIDI, and Triad Office Interiors on the complete fit-out of three floors at 222 Bay Street in Toronto for BDO. The project incorporated the leading accounting firm’s new work/life philosophy with an open office environment to foster collaboration. Features include flexible, reconfigurable boardrooms and staff social space.

BDO’s initiative was to re-imagine the workplace environment to reflect the changing business processes and cultural shifts to facilitate greater levels of collaboration, innovation and talent attraction/retention. As part of the initial build out, BDO staff from 123 Front Street and 66 Wellington were relocated to two floors in Toronto’s iconic TD Tower, with a third floor retrofit pending completion.

A modern, sophisticated colour palette and design details pay homage to the open minimalist aesthetics of the architecture. The main reception and client-facing meeting rooms reside on the 22nd floor. A moveable wall system, incorporated into the main boardrooms, allows BDO to host its annual general meetings which were previously held offsite. A social space on the 21st floor provides a multi-functional hub for staff, including a ping pong table.

The office features different seating types and technology to support gathering, socializing and collaboration. Banquettes provide impromptu meeting areas with plug-and-play technology. Feature whiteboard screens add visual interest to the space, privacy between departments, and encourage information-sharing; many of the walls are also writeable to support idea generation. All workstations and private offices are height-adjustable, with hydration stations strategically placed to support wellness in the office.
